A Service of Tenebrae

April 1 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

From the Latin for “darkness,” or “shadows,” Tenebrae is the celebration of morning prayer in the days preceding Easter. Traditionally, these daily offices were sung in the early hours of the morning or anticipated the evening before as darkness was setting in. A candelabra features prominently, and after the recitation of the appointed psalms, candles are gradually extinguished to the point of total darkness. The Lamentations of Jeremiah make up the appointed lessons and will be sung by our St. Francis Choral Scholars. Don’t miss this powerful liturgy, the perfect way to immerse yourself in the journey of Holy Week as we move from darkness to light.
