WELCOME TO CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

The vision of Children's Ministry is to prepare children for a lifelong commitment of faith in Jesus Christ and to bear fruit in the world; to recognize that children are disciples for Christ in the world; and to inspire and grow their hearts by providing programs and events that will help them to understand who God is, who we are in the world God created and how God can be a part of our lives.

Children's Sunday School

Sunday School teachers play a vital role in the spiritual lives of children. At St. Francis in the Fields, we are blessed with a group of loving and caring teachers for whom we are truly grateful. During the school year, September through May, toddlers through high school-age children meet each Sunday morning at 10:15 AM with their peers (by grade level) for a traditional, Bible-based Sunday School program. We always welcome friends and visitors into our classes so please stop in and see what our classes are like. We welcome you to come and meet your peers, the teachers and experience St. Francis Sunday School for yourself.

Our Sunday School classrooms are staffed with a team of volunteers. Team members rotate to share the planning and leading of various learning activities with two team members in the classroom each week. Please feel free to contact Jennifer Grady if you think you may be interested in joining a teaching team. Other seasonal opportunities exist for Vacation Bible School and Wednesday night programs.

CHILDREN'S WORSHIP

Children's Chapel is a church service within a church service. Designed exclusively for our young attendees, the Children's Chapel prepares them for “adult” worship by providing a liturgical service that engages them in the lesson and provides opportunities for them to be a part of the worship experience. Each week, there are chances to serve as greeters, ushers, readers and to assist with the Gospel lesson.

Children’s Chapel is offered every Sunday morning during the worship services at 9:00 (in the Davenport Chapel) and 11:15 (downstairs in the Commons Room). During the summer, Children's Chapel takes place during the 10:00am service. Any child ages 3 and up is invited to participate. Parents are also invited to accompany their child if they like. Although the service is aimed toward children ages 3 to 8, older children are invited to not only attend, but take an active role in the chapel experience.

In addition to our Gospel lesson, in which we tell our little ones about the love of Jesus, one Sunday a month will have an additional lesson to help prepare our youngest members for “adult” worship. For example, during Lent, we will learn about the season of Lent. We will also continue practicing how to kneel at the altar and how to cross our arms if we are not taking communion.

If your child is in third, fourth or fifth grade and would like to be an Acolyte in Children’s Chapel, please contact Jennifer Grady at the email/phone below. Jr. Acolytes help with chapel set-up, attendance management and collecting the offering.

For babies, toddlers and younger children who are not yet ready to sit through the service, Nursery Ministry is available downstairs in the Sunday School rooms. Our nurseries are staffed by volunteer and staff teachers.

If you have any questions please contact Jennifer Grady in the church office or by phone 502-228-1176.
