Lord, Open Our Lips: Advent Rector’s Forum

December 17 @ 10:15 am - 11:00 am

If you have picked up a copy of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), you have probably seen four liturgies toward the very beginning called the Daily Offices. Maybe you’ve even been tempted to try them, but you’ve found them overwhelming. So, what is the Daily Office, why does it exist, and how should we use it? In this class we will learn how Anglicans have prayed through history, with the BCP Daily Offices functioning as the principal launch-pad for learning how to pray. The great Anglican priest and poet George Herbert said, “Prayer should be the key of the day and the lock of the night.” In learning how to pray the Offices, we join a host of Christians who have gone before us, themselves leaving practical tools for us to adopt an attitude of praying “without ceasing.” Join us, and learn anew how to pray in an Anglican way. Note: It is highly recommended that you bring your own 1979 BCP to class for reference and notetaking. If the expense is burdensome, we will give you one.

Advent 1 (December 3):  Fr. Andy Mead with “A Life Fueled by Praying (the Offices)”

Advent 2 (December 10): Fr. Clint Wilson with “Morning Prayer Examined”

Advent 3 (December 17): Mthr. Barbara White with “Evening Prayer Examined”
