every member canvass

Welcome, Parishioners, to the launch of our 2018 Stewardship Campaign – the Every Member Canvass!

Dear St. Francis Parishioner,

Our yearly EMC (Every Member Canvass) is underway, and this year’s theme is “Grace and Peace,” which is taken from the Apostle Paul’s opening greeting in many of his New Testament letters, in which he would write, “Grace and Peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Of this salutation, in his commentary on Galatians, the Reformer Martin Luther writes:

The greeting of the Apostle is refreshing. Grace remits sin, and peace quiets the conscience. Sin and conscience torment us, but Christ has overcome these fiends now and forever. Only Christians possess this victorious knowledge given from above. These two terms, grace and peace, constitute Christianity. . . We find no rest for our weary bones unless we cling to the word of grace.

There is nothing flashy or sophisticated about our appeal, because we rest on the conviction that unlike other fundraising or non-profit campaigns, ours is less of an ask and more of an offer, an offer to further the work of the Gospel. When we participate financially in the work of a ministry, we are taking that which falsely promises ultimate control and peace, i.e., money, and giving it to the Author of our lives, the Lord, the Prince of Peace. Just as Jesus tells his disciples, “freely you have received, freely give,” so we too, by our financial gift to the work of God, make a confession of our lives about where our hearts are and where our ultimate hope lies, two things that are intimately connected. As Jesus observes in Matthew 11, where our treasure is, there will our hearts be also, so we know that how we spend our money, like our time, truly is an act of worship.

This is why churches talk about money: because its power over our lives is in direct competition with our trust in the goodness and mercies of God. The promised peace and joy that one more dollar can bring, as evidenced by the mad rush over every Powerball jackpot, is clearly a lie, but one that remains impossible to ignore until it is silenced by the voice of Jesus crying out, “it is finished.” Lived by the light of his death and resurrection, life becomes a response to what has been given, a reflection of the mercies of God in Christ, and an act of gratitude for the Grace shown, the peace experienced, and the joy of our salvation.

So, we pray that you’ll consider your pledge this year as merely one of your various and ongoing acts of financial devotion, not to St. Francis, but to the Lord who has come to heal, redeem, and save. We know that there are many worthy recipients of your money, and heartily encourage your participation in the lives of other non-profits and ministries; however, we are a one-note hospital for sinners, and by God’s grace, we will remain committed to the work of the Gospel, and find anew, through bible study, service, fellowship, worship, and prayer, “rest for our weary bones.” The grace of God is, indeed, amazing, as we often sing, and we trust that even now the Lord is preparing your hearts to give to the work of preaching his Grace and living in his peace; thanks be to God!

On September 18th, the Canvass Co-Chairs of Tom Dieruf and Scott Calvert initiated the campaign at each of our services.  This past Sunday, September 25th, Jady discussed the importance of Stewardship in the life of a Christian. Scott reviewed the Campaign’s Financial Goal of 1.5MM and presented the rationale for continued support for the programs (and people!) that make St. Francis so special.

We are working to make the pledging process as easy and straight forward as possible, while at the same time, providing an efficient system for our accounting and support staff. Choose one (1) of three (3) ways to make your pledge:

Method 1: Submit your pledge securely online

  • Log-in to your St. Francis account. (Need help setting up your account? – email Emily Fraiser
  • Look to the bottom left of the screen and click on the “PLEDGE NOW” button.
  • Select the amount of your pledge.
  • Choose “Every Member Canvass” as the fund
  • Indicate the frequency of your pledge amount.
  • Add in the dates of 01/01/2018 thru 12/31/2018
  • SAVE your pledge. At this point you can save or “save and setup online gift”.

That’s it, you’re DONE!

If we receive your pledge online, we won’t mail a pledge card, saving St Francis administrative time and costs.
Pledging cannot be done using the ChurchLife APP.

Method 2: Contact Kelly Davidson, Parish Accountant

Feel free to email Kelly, or call her at 502-228-1176 with your pledge.

That’s it, you’re DONE!

Method 3: Traditional pledge cards

  • Cards will be mailed on October 11th.
  • Return your pledge by mail, drop it in the collection plate or place it in the EMC 2018 box in the Narthex.
  • Please feel free to drop it off early! The earlier we have your pledge, the better for our budgeting.

With each of the pledging methods, you can choose how you wish to honor your pledge. Credit card payments can be selected when you make your pledge.

  • Automatic Debit or Credit Card Payment: (Set up online or return form with pledge card)
  • Online Bill Pay: (See your bank for details)
  • Gift Appreciated Stock: (Request a form from the Parish office)
  • Traditional Pledge Envelope for mail or to the plate.
  • Or, simply call the Parish office at 502-228-1176 and speak confidentially with our accountant Kelly Davidson about your household pledge. She will happily answer any questions you might have.
God’s Peace,
