Mission 2012

St. Francis Mission News

** Please note: Both missions are currently full, but if you would like to be put on a waiting

While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." (Acts 13:2)

This is an exciting time for all members of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church. As we discern God's movement in our lives, the St. Francis Mission Team is preparing for its calling to Mission. If you feel you are being called to serve, please take a look at our Mission Expectations. We’ll be building relationships this summer by leading Vacation Bible School and work projects in two areas of the world that truly need our help. This is an opportunity for all of us to be involved in spreading the word of God, helping our fellow man, and realizing our calling to Jesus.

The Mission Planning Team is excited to announce two opportunities for you to serve during the summer of 2012. A team of adults and youth (7th-12th grades) will travel to David, KY, from June 10th to 15th to participate in a Vacation Bible School for the community and work projects around the David School. The cost for this mission is $350, with a nonrefundable deposit of $100 and a completed application. There is limited space.

Adults and youth (9th-12th grades) will travel to the Dominican Republic June 24th through July 1st to work on work projects in the community of Samangola and help with a VBS. This will be a mutual mission with our friends from San Cristobal. During this mission, we will continue work on the Church in Samangola we started two summers ago. The cost for this mission is $900 with a nonrefundable deposit of $300.

Applications are available from Raleigh Langley and Karen Ellestad, who will begin accepting applications on Sunday, January 15th after the 9 a.m. service. Each application must be complete and include the nonrefundable deposit. You can also download the applications below.

Many of you have asked how you can help in our preparations for both Missions. Fundraising Efforts are underway with several different opportunities planned for the winter and spring for you to help out. The Mission Team will also be asking parishioners to partner with them in prayer. If you are asked to be a Mission Prayer Partner, please consider this as your way of supporting our Mission. Your participation in these important preparations is not only appreciated, but also necessary.

We want all those St. Francis parishioners who are called to mission work to have the opportunity to do so. Those who have answered this call in the past to mission, whether they hail from across the state or across the sea, have found it a very rewarding experience. As we will be the hands and feet, you are the body of St. Francis in the Fields. For more information on the Missions, please contact Raleigh Langley or Karen Ellestad or by phone in the parish office at 502-228-1176.

There will be a Commissioning Ceremony for the David, KY Mission on June 10 and for the Dominican Republic Mission on June 24.  Both will occur during the 10:00 Worship Service.
