Youth Ministries
Youth are vital to the life of our parish and St. Francis has an outstanding, strong youth ministry. Our youth take on responsibilities for planning and implementing their own programs and are supported by adults mindful of the spiritual and unique qualities of each young person. The Youth Senate includes a representative from each grade, two chairpersons and our two youth ministers.

In 1994, the Vicarage was remodeled so our young people could explore their faith journeys and have activities in their own space. They spent many hours renovating, painting, arranging and asking for donations to furnish it. The Vicarage has become their haven away from home. In 1996, two vans were donated for youth transportation.  In 1999 a third van was donated due to growth. Another van was donated and one was retired in 2004.

Our youth meet in two groups: Middlers (grades 7 through 8) and EYC (grades 9 through 12). Middlers and EYC meet regularly during the school year and summer months.

Over 100 youth participate weekly as acolytes for our worship services, sing in the choir, serve on committees, and attend church school on Sunday mornings. Solid Rock meets every Wednesday evening in the Vicarage for challenging discussions about how the Bible relates to each young person today and explorations of individual faith journeys. Activities throughout the year include game nights, rock climbing, ice skating, hiking, snow skiing, white water rafting, a Polaroid party and weekend retreats.

The youth serve our larger community through outreach projects and activities. The youth participate in the Hunger Walk each October to raise awareness and money for hunger issues in the Louisville community. They have helped others by taking mission trips to Mexico, North Carolina and South Dakota to repair damaged homes and distribute food.  For the last four years our youth led a team to the Dominican Republic to build a church and take care of medical needs in the community of Baharona and have led a VBS (Vacation Bible School) for the children of David, KY.  They also worked hard on projects that would make a difference in the community in that Eastern Kentucky coal mining town. This summer our youth will go back to both David, KY and to the Dominican Republic to build relationships through Vacation Bible School and work projects in both communities.

In every activity, the goal of our youth is to focus on their mission statement: "To love the Lord with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind; and to love your neighbor as yourself."
