TUESDAY BIBLE STUDY (TBS)
The letters of First and Second Corinthians are well worth our reading. The port city of Corinth was strategically located between the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas providing for a bustling economy that placed heavy emphasis on materialism. The inhabitants were largely Greeks and Romans who brought with them a mix of gods lending to a pluralistic culture. On the mountain looking down on Corinth was an enormous temple dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite promoting a heightened sensuality unique to the region. Athletes were worshipped and coliseums were filled. Idolatrous feasts and gluttony were commonplace. Sound familiar? It is within this context Paul writes his two letters to the Corinthians forming a Christian spirituality that transformed the culture. Both letters have memorable verses, phrases, images and metaphors. Both are worth our reading. More importantly, both are worth our listening for the Word that can transform us today.
Classes on 2nd Corinthians begin Tuesday mornings, January 5th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Graves Hall with a lecture by the Rev. Robert T. Jennings followed by small-group spiritual formation. There is a $20 fee to cover current study books, pastoral care needs, and related materials. To sign up contact Kathy Foster at 897-7789 or kathydfoster@insightbb.com, or call Cheryl Brandreth in the parish office, or at Cherylb@stfrancisinthefields.org.
A nursery is provided to all participants of TBS free of charge through our Bible Kids program. Bible Kids provides a safe and nurturing environment where we teach and model Christian principles, share Bible stories, pray and sing together. Preregistration is required and can be completed by contacting Rachel Nelson in the parish office, or at racheln@stfrancisinthefields.org.

SUPPER CLUBS
Supper Clubs are an integral part of our parish life and we encourage anyone new to St. Francis to join a group. Each "Club" consists of a group of 8 to 12 people of different ages and backgrounds who meet for a potluck meal at each others' houses. Individual clubs meet several times throughout the year from October through May. Dinners are planned at the convenience of the majority of club members and the group members rotate as hosts. Everyone is assigned a dish to bring. Supper Clubs are not limited to weekends, and many clubs meet during the week. A restaurant option is available for those who wish to meet for an evening out, with each couple paying for their own dinner.
