Several years ago, our sexton, Curtis Taylor, noticed that there was always extra food left over from St. Francis events. Moved by the needs he saw of homeless individuals living downtown, Curtis began a ministry whereby he took our own extra food and fed whoever would come to the trunk of his car. This ministry has now grown to the point where much of the canned goods are donated by local entities. Every Saturday at 2:00 PM a team of St. Francis parishioners and others from the community gather in the kitchen in Graves Hall to prepare a meal to take to the homeless. Salvation Army has been kind enough to lend a building to this ministry for the purpose of feeding the homeless and it is open at 4:00 PM on Saturdays. Volunteers may choose to meet in the kitchen to prepare or travel downtown to serve the food or both. This is an ongoing need.
If you would like to volunteer, contact Curtis Taylor at 502-718-5264. Tax deductible donations are always needed and appreciated.
Checks should be made payable to St. Francis in the Fields with "Loaves and Fishes" in the memo line and can be given to Carol Brady, Parish Bookkeeper. |
