The Yoke of Mission and Ministry for St. Peter’s and St. Francis in the Fields
It is with great joy to announce that at our September 26th Vestry meeting, the clergy and vestry have approved the concept of a “yoked” relationship with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Louisville. The goals of this shared ministry will be clarified over the next several months, but it primarily will consist of encouraging one another through prayer and worship, the sharing of resources, and partnering in mission. Bishop Gulick is totally committed to this strategy and has provided his full support as a model for the diocese where parishes can partner more effectively and make more creative use of our joint resources. For example, both St. Peter’s and St. Francis in the Fields have already worked together in such ministries as ALPHA, Habitat for Humanity, and marriage. This fall, we will invite youth from St. Peter’s to join our youth for our fall retreat. St. Peter’s is currently developing a “wish list” of specific needs where St. Francis will be invited to offer financial help. As we reach out to each other in this yoked mission, both parishes are ever mindful that such a ministry will require not only good planning and oversight but we must first yoke ourselves to Christ. Then, and only then, will the yoke of mutual ministry “be easy and the burden light.”
