Cabbage Patch Settlement House Ministry
sponsored by St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church
Mission Statement:
To empower families and children to be self-sufficient by helping them maximize their spiritual, social, emotional, physical, moral, economic and educational potential.
Founded in 1910, the Cabbage Patch Settlement House is a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to serve the needs of the residents in a neighborhood in Louisville known as the Cabbage Patch.
The organization seeks to empower families and children to be self - sufficient to help them realize their spiritual, social, emotional, physical moral economic and educational potential. Their message is clear and unequivocal: only through God’s help will lives be changed and continually fulfilled.
Located at 1413 S. Sixth Street, Cabbage Patch helps families who are at or near the poverty level, with 60% earning less than $25,000 a year, and 50% are headed by single mothers.
St. Francis has committed to financially support Cabbage Patch, as well as sponsor special events. We heartily endorse the Cabbage Patch mission and its programs and recognize the dedication and quality of its staff and leadership. Individual contributions are also encouraged. Also, many volunteering activities are available. For information call 502-634-0811
St. Francis - cabbage patch christmas party
For the past two years, St. Francis has sponsored a remarkable Christmas gift-giving event with the Cabbage Patch Settlement House to serve its scores of needy children during the Christmas season the event continues to expand in scope and number.
For the most part, it works the way many Christmas programs for disadvantaged communities do.
The Cabbage Patch provides St. Francis with the names, ages and gift suggestions for Cabbage Patch kids, and in some cases for their families as well.
You select a child or a family to sponsor, purchase gifts and wrap them. But unlike other Christmas gift-giving programs, St. Francis sponsors are invited to bring their gifts to a St. Francis funded Christmas party at the Cabbage Patch. The party includes refreshments, games, old-fashioned Christmas stories and even a visit from Santa Claus himself.
You and your children will feel the joy and wonder of Christmas, and the children of Cabbage Patch will feel the same Christian joy - and more. They will know that others care about them, especially in the season of Christian love. It will be one of the highlights of your family’s holiday season.
“We truly have been blessed by God through the great people of St. Francis! The Cabbage Patch is so grateful for this church and their tremendous acts of generosity. St. Francis members are really living out their faith and have helped us, especially through this event, make a positive impact on the lives of these children and their families.” - Calvin Holloway, Cabbage Patch Family Services Manager
The truth about outreach ministries
The truth about outreach ministries is that when God calls us to love our neighbor through service, we not only further His kingdom on earth, we ourselves are also transformed.
