Awana
St. Francis in the Fields is considering starting this fun and rewarding new ministry on January 10, 2006. Awana clubs would meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:15 - 7:45. Before we finalize plans to introduce Awana, we want to make sure that enough families are interested in participating and supporting this ministry.
What is Awana? Awana is a club much like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts that exists to teach children scripture in the context of fun and fellowship. It is a self-paced curriculum packed with activities, games and rewards for goals met. There are vests and patches earned for every goal accomplished. Activity books are sent home with the children for sharing, practice and learning at home.
Cubbies are the preschool age club of Awana. The Cubbies curriculum features two handbooks written in a fun, storybook style that appeals to preschoolers. The handbooks contain 24 Bear Hug sections along with six optional special-day sections. Each section combines basic Scripture memory with parent-child activities to help a child grasp a simple biblical truth.
Sparks are the Kindergarten through 2nd grade club of Awana. The Sparks program is firmly grounded in Scripture. The three handbooks feature:
- Basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible
- An increased emphasis on Scripture memory over our preschool materials. In three years, a child will learn and review 68 verses, many of which cover salvation and key Christian doctrine
- Clear and consistent presentation of the gospel message
The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third through sixth grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Our goal is that many of today’s young people will become tomorrow’s church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow today. T&T is equipped with a variety of dynamic tools to accomplish this mission:
Today, more than 10,400 churches in the United States run Awana. There are clubs in all 50 states. Awana can also be found in 3,200 churches in 109 other countries and six continents.
